C'est pendant mon rapide séjour en France, de passage en vacances à Bordeaux, que j'entends la nouvelle. Jacques Villeret est décédé à l'âge de 53 ans. Je l'entends d'abord d'une personne dans un magasin, qui avait elle-même dû l'entendre à la radio, mais je n'y prête pas trop attention, ne sachant pas s'il faut juste ignorer les murmures ou bien accepter cette annonce surprenante. Puis au fil de la journée, tout le monde ne parle plus que ce ça. Jacques Villeret a succombé à un malaise le vendredi 28 janvier 2005, plus tard identifié comme une hémorragie interne.
Sans pourtant être un grand admirateur du comédien, la nouvelle perturbe. Je le trouvais excessif dans la soupe au choux, il me faisait un peu de la peine dans le rôle légèrement décalé de la caricature de son propre personnage dans le dîner de cons, mais je dois avouer qu'il faut du courage et de la passion pour savoir garder cette naïveté insolente dans les yeux et une forme rondelette, qui le feront passer comme l'ami de tous, le faire-valoir des autres.
Chapeau bas, donc, car c'est un monument que l'on croyait immuable qui vient d'être prématurément retiré. Un de ceux dont on réalise la réelle importance quand leur absence devient peine et tristesse.

The beautifully mantained lawns were marked with three giant H for the
helicopters' landing, rare plants were trampled, trees and shrubs that had
survived Queen Victoria's reign were damaged by the helicopters, etc.
Even the Palace had its own share of damage, as high-tech links were specially
fitted for the president and his entourage.
The Palace's head gardener, Mark Lane, was reported to be in tears when he saw the scale of the damage.
Somehow, that's a scene I can picture with ease...
I've just read in the news
today that Singapore lifted the gum ban.
First of all, I didn't even know there was a gum ban in Singapore!
I'm wondering how people who like gum were doing before...
Were there gum dealers selling gums in the street to teenagers after school?
What was the penalty for being caught chewing gum? When you go to Singapore
with some gum in your backpack, would you be sent to jail as if you were
carrying drugs ;-) ?
It's only half a step forward though, since the article mentions that only pharmacies will be allowed to sell gum (and only the one that aids "dental and oral hygiene")...
Still better than Singapore's original proposal to sell gum only with a
doctor's prescription!
How much is a doctor's consultation, compared to the price of a pack of
gum?...
