I’m just back from a 5-day trip to Iceland and it was a wonderful experience in spite of the horrible weather! I had been dreaming about going to Iceland for a long time time and the least I can say is that Iceland did not disappoint me, far from it: I’m already thinking about when I can go there again!<\/p>\n

To put it in a nutshell, Iceland is really the dream destination for photographers. Even though days are short with only a few hours of daylight during winter, the sun remains quite low in the sky which provides a great light for photography. At least, that’s what I think, considering that I had almost no direct light at all, due to a very difficult weather for most of my trip there!<\/p>\n

That being said, landscapes in Iceland are still breathtaking, in spite of the snow, the cold or the wind. Interestingly speaking, in day when I would probably stay home watching a DVD because of the weather conditions, you can still go out and take beautiful pictures in Iceland! The clouds actually give a real dramatic sense to the scenary, especially on pictures taken on a black sand beach<\/a>, just before sunrise. The snow was on the other hand more difficult to handle, as it considerably reduced the visibility and some of the pics just came out all white because of that…<\/p>\n

I was however lucky enough to have a clear evening for two hours, just enough to snap a few pics of northern lights<\/a> while I was on a ride away from Reykjavik (to avoid light pollution). The northern lights were out as early as 7pm, which is quite rare (the northern light hunting tours actually missed the whole show as they had planned to leave later!) and I didn’t expect to see them as the moon was almost full (auroras need to be especially strong in a bright environment to be visible). I am quite happy about the results because the moon actually lit up the whole landscape and gave a very peculiar aspect to the pictures<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In total, I spent one day to do the “Golden Circle” tour, which consisted of 3 locations:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Gullfoss, a beautiful waterfall with several levels<\/li>\n
  2. Geyser and Strokkur (mainly), as Geyser (which is the the geyser which gave its name to all the other ones) hasn’t been active for years<\/li>\n
  3. Thingvelir, the place where the parlement was funded and also where tectonic plates split<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    and three days (or should I say one day and a half, considering the bad weather) to visit the southern coast with a professional photographer.<\/p>\n

    Finally, I spent the last day in the Blue Lagoon, a pool rich in silica, close to the airport: the ideal destination to end a great trip with a nice bath!<\/p>\n

    I can’t wait to go back to Iceland again, maybe in Summer next time to visit the Northern part of the island!<\/p>\n

    Je reviens tout juste d’Islande o\u00c3\u00b9 j’ai pass\u00c3\u00a9 5 jours de r\u00c3\u00aave malgr\u00c3\u00a9 un temps de cochon. Je r\u00c3\u00aavais d’aller en Islande depuis longtemps et ce voyage ne m’a pas d\u00c3\u00a9\u00c3\u00a7u au point m\u00c3\u00aame que je pense d\u00c3\u00a9j\u00c3\u00a0 \u00c3\u00a0 la prochaine fois o\u00c3\u00b9 j’y retournerai!<\/p>\n

    En bref, l’Islande, c’est vraiment un pays superbe pour les photographes. En hiver, il n’y a que quelques heures de jour, mais comme le soleil ne va jamais tr\u00c3\u00a8s haut, la qualit\u00c3\u00a9 de la lumi\u00c3\u00a8re est excellente pour la photo. Du moins, c’est ce que je pense car j’ai eu un ciel plus que couvert pendant la quasi totalit\u00c3\u00a9 de mon s\u00c3\u00a9jour!<\/p>\n

    Mais malgr\u00c3\u00a9 la neige, le froid et le vent, les paysages restent magnifiques. Les nuages donnent vraiment un effet dramatique aux paysages, en particulier sur les photos prises sur une plage de sable de noir<\/a>, peu avant le lever du soleil. La neige \u00c3\u00a9tait plus dure \u00c3\u00a0 g\u00c3\u00a9rer car elle a consid\u00c3\u00a9rablement r\u00c3\u00a9duit la visibilit\u00c3\u00a9 et certaines photos ne rendent rien du tout \u00c3\u00a0 cause de \u00c3\u00a7a. J’ai tout de m\u00c3\u00aame eu la chance d’avoir une soir\u00c3\u00a9e claire pendant deux heures qui m’a permis de voir des aurores bor\u00c3\u00a9ales. Coup de chance, j’\u00c3\u00a9tais justement en route pour une sortie en dehors de la ville (source de pollution lumineuse) ce qui m’a permis de prendre quelques photos sympas<\/a> d\u00c3\u00a8s 7h du soir, ce qui est visiblement plut\u00c3\u00b4t rare (les groupes qui se concentraient sur les aurores bor\u00c3\u00a9ales ne sont partis que plus tard et ont tout rat\u00c3\u00a9! H\u00c3\u00a9h\u00c3\u00a9!). Je ne m’attendais pas vraiment \u00c3\u00a0 un tel spectacle, car la lune \u00c3\u00a9tait quasiment pleine (pour voir les aurores, il faut donc que l’activit\u00c3\u00a9 soit tr\u00c3\u00a8s forte), mais je suis plut\u00c3\u00b4t satisfait des photos qui ont sont sorties, car la lune a permis d’illuminer le paysage<\/a>.<\/p>\n

    Au final, j’ai pass\u00c3\u00a9 une journ\u00c3\u00a9e \u00c3\u00a0 faire le Golden Circle Tour, une sortie en groupe pour visiter trois sites:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Gullfoss, une superbe cascade \u00c3\u00a0 niveaux<\/li>\n
    2. Geyser ou plut\u00c3\u00b4t Strokkur, car Geyser (le geyser qui a donn\u00c3\u00a9 son nom \u00c3\u00a0 tous les autres) n’est pas vraiment actif<\/li>\n
    3. Thingvelir, l’emplacement de la fondation du parlement et aussi l’endroit o\u00c3\u00b9 les plaques tectoniques se s\u00c3\u00a9parent<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      et trois jours (ou plut\u00c3\u00b4t un jour et demi, vu le mauvais temps) \u00c3\u00a0 faire la c\u00c3\u00b4te sud de l’Islande en compagnie d’un guide photographe.<\/p>\n

      Le dernier jour a \u00c3\u00a9t\u00c3\u00a9 pass\u00c3\u00a9 dans le lagon bleu, une piscine riche en silice et non loin de l’a\u00c3\u00a9roport: id\u00c3\u00a9al pour terminer son voyage par un bain relaxant!<\/p>\n

      Il me tarde d\u00c3\u00a9j\u00c3\u00a0 de retourner en Islande, peut-\u00c3\u00aatre en \u00c3\u00a9t\u00c3\u00a9 la prochaine fois pour faire la partie Nord!<\/p>\n
