There was an amazing sunset over HK this evening and I am soooo happy I took my camera to the office today. I used some HDR effect on the pic to try out that application I’ve just purchased (Photomatix) and the results came out even better than I expected: it really looks like the city is flowing with gold! I’m usually not a big fan of HDR when it’s over-used but when it helps re-balancing overexposed skies or dark foregrounds, I’m all for it!

I was introduced to this technique when I was in Iceland but back then, I was trying to do it the hardcore way masking the upper part of the lens (with mixed results I must say). It’s just so much easier to do it with an application now, even though it does introduce some small artefacts if you’re picky.

I can’t wait to go to New Zealand and to Myanmar later this year and hopefully feed this blog with more updates!
